The wetland was dominant with Juncus glaucus. Viola serpans and Centella asiatica was found at the base of Juncus glaucus in the ground level. Rorippa indica was found in the small stream running in between the wetland. Zantedeschia was found in small discrete patches. The following birds were sighted of Brahmni kite, Bulbul, Egret was observed. Cattle grazing (cow, sheep, and goat) were seen.
Numeric criteria Water quality
Permissible limits Observed value
pH 6.5-8.5 6
Temperature (0C) 10 20
Coliform Nil Yes
Fluoride 1.0 (max) 0.6
Residual Chloride (mg/l) 0.2 0.2
Phosphorous (mg/l) 0.1
Iron (mg/l) 0.3 3
Hardness (mg/l) 300-600 40
Chlorides (mg/l) 250-1000 88.6
Ammonia 1.5 0.1
Turbidity(NTU) less than 5-10 25
Remark soft water, low fluoride and chloride content, presence of coliform, high iron content
As can be seen from the above table the water shows presence of coliform and high content of ammonia and turbidity. Turbidity makes water unfit for domestic and industrial purpose. A reduction in turbidity is associated with a reduction in suspension suspension matter and microbial growth. In natural water, with higher level of turbidity, water becomes warmer as suspended particles absorb more heat from sunlight. This results in less amount of oxygen being absorbed. Turbidity also restricts light penetration for photosynthesis. Oil Which does not settle down and floats on the surface as a milky white film cuts the sunlight reaching into the body of water
